Eugene Rental Owners
The Eugene Rental Owners group was formed when it came to our attention that the Eugene City Council was slated to pass "renter protections" — aka "landlord regulations" that would add significant cost & risk to our rental businesses. Most landlords were caught unaware until an article ran in the Register-Guard in December 2021.
We were shocked to find out that the City had been considering renter protections for years, while the vast majority of landlords were unaware and the City did nothing to inform us. After all, Eugene's landlords should have a good relationship with the City, since we've fully funded Eugene's Rental Housing Code since 2004! The least the City could have done was insert a notice along with the invoices they mail to landlords each year.
In response to this news, within a week the Eugene Rental Owners group formed on Facebook, and it quickly grew to 200 members.
Our Mission:
#1: To object to regulations that would affect our private property rights — the right to possess, control (use), exclude others, derive income and dispose of our properties as we see fit.
#2: To hold our government officials accountable for making sound decisions, including:
Needs/problems clearly identified based on verified research, data and facts; not emotions.
Transparency on issues being considered, including early & direct notification of stakeholders.
Public engagement on issues; real two-way communication & collaboration with stakeholders.
Big, consequential decisions put to a vote.
To be successful, all property owners — homeowners, rental owners & short-term rental owners — must stick together & support each other, for strength in numbers!
